About Me: I am a native of Denver, CO. I received my doctorate in Education in 2014, and in the summer of 2015, I completed a second master’s degree from the University of Denver in Curriculum and Instruction (endorsed in Special Education and Cultural and Linguistic Diversity). I previously obtained my B.A. (2003) in Communications with a minor in Women's Studies and M.A. (2007) in Liberal Studies from the University of Denver.
As an individual with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and LD (Learning Disabilities in reading, writing and math), I really struggled to learn from an early age. However, my life took an amazing turn when I began to use experiential and creative writing to address my academic issues. Using these tools, I began working with my children who suffered with various learning disabilities. I enjoyed the work, but in 2007, I hit another snag in my academic life, when using writing was no longer a pathway to my academic success. During that time, I picked up a paintbrush and discovered that I was able to use art to understand and map out my thoughts. I am now a professional artist and teacher. I am grateful every day for the new things I will discover about myself.
My husband and I live in Aurora and we are the proud parents of a blended family of 5 (4 are grown and moved out, 1 is left at home and in high school). We enjoy Korean Drama’s and hanging out with one another. I am excited to be at Vista Peak Exploratory. I look forward to discovering new ways to assist my students with their learning.
